b. Stamford, CT USA The prints Sarah Pike created at Hole Editions demonstrate her love of traditional printmaking and the integration of new technologies. The images, architectural deconstructions of the building that housed her former studio, were developed digitally by reconfiguring portions of large-scale lithographs printed in Switzerland the previous summer. In 2 Figures in 5 Colors the digital drawing was transferred to stone and hand drawn with tusche, turning the flat, sharp structure of the digital drawing into a visual tension between linear stability and the organic movement of the reticulated tusche. In the two relief print blocks were cut from Valchormat, an organically dyed wood fiber panel, using a CNC router. Here the sharp, precise edges of the block are softened by the felt like texture of the wood fiber. Both the lithograph and relief prints demonstrate Pike’s fascination with subtle color vibrations achieved by building up multiple layers of color on textured surfaces. This technique resonates from her trainng as a painter. Website > Sarah Pike Click on thumbnailsfor larger images. |
